Safety and Security

Keeping your phone safe and secure

Your phone is a valued possession and there are a number of measures you can follow to ensure it is kept safe and secure:

• Register your mobile at www.immobilise.com

• Keep your phone out of sight when not being used

• Use your phone's security lock code

• Record details of your electronic serial number (ESN) and consider insurance

• Record the IMEI number which is a unique identifier for the phone. Type *#06# into your phone to find it.

• Property mark your phone with your postcode and door number to help police identify it

• Report a lost or stolen phone to police immediately

• Inform Yes Telecom's Customer Services if your phone is lost or stolen

• Don't leave your phone in an unattended car

What to do if your phone is stolen

The first thing to do is get your phone barred. This will stop calls being made from your phone and prevent any charges.

To bar your phone please contact Yes Telecom's Customer Services.

If you need to have your phone barred and it is out of normal office hours, please call 0161 446 4310.

If you recover your phone you can have it unblocked, which may take up to two weeks.

You will be charged for all usage until you report your device lost/stolen to our Customer Services Team.

Pin Security

The PIN is your Personal Identification Number that is a security feature of your SIM card. The default PIN on the Vodafone network is 0000. Activating your PIN can prevent your mobile phone from being used if it is lost or stolen.

If your device is asking for your PIN and you type it incorrectly 3 times, your phone will lock and you will need a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code to unlock it.

Do not attempt to guess your PUK code as this may cause the SIM card to be blocked permanently and you will need to request a new SIM card.

Some devices also have their own security locks (called phone locks or device locks) that can be activated to prevent unauthorised use of the device. Please refer to the device's user guide for details.

Voicemail Security

Your Voicemail* messages can also be kept secure with its own security code (PIN).

There are two levels of security available:

  1. Complete Security - You will be asked to enter your PIN number at all times, whether accessing your Voicemail from your mobile or another phone

  2. Standard Security - You will be asked to enter your PIN only once if you are accessing Voicemail from abroad or another phone.
The security code is a preset, 4-digit number that can be changed:

Dial 121, choose option 4 and then option 2 to enter your security settings.

Your security code can be any 4 digits but it cannot be made up of repeated
or sequential numbers such as 1111, 1234, 4321.

Driving and using your phone

It is illegal to hold and use a mobile phone or similar device while driving.

You can receive a hefty fine plus points on your licence. If you end up in court for driving without due care and attention, the penalty could be much higher.

We ask you to only use your mobile phone in a responsible manner. If you must use a device you will need a hands-free car kit that will not distract you from your driving. If you do not have one of these, your Voicemail* can take a message for you. If you are with a passenger ask them to take the call for you and, if needs must, you can always pull over into a safe position to take a call.

* Voicemail incurs costs. Speak to Customer Services for details
