Whether it’s booking earlier flights home or checking your company emails, using the internet abroad is now as essential as making a call.

From 1st July 2010, Vodafone has introduced new roaming charges when using handset data abroad. What’s more, Vodafone will text notifications to customers when they use their data abroad to advise on their usage. Full details are below:

Handset Data Costs Abroad?

The following roaming charges relate to using a mobile phone to access the internet, send/receive emails and using data-based applications when abroad. Should you have a Roaming Data bolt-on, these charges will come into effect should you exceed your inclusive roaming allowance.

Please note: These charges are applicable to Yes Telecom customers who joined us / upgraded from 1st July 2010. For customers who joined us before this date, please contact Customer Services.

EU Data Roaming Cap

Fromd 1st July 2010, all customers will be opted into an EU Data Roaming Cap of 50 Euros each month. This is to ensure you do not unknowingly spend too much when abroad. You will also receive notifications about your usage to keep you on track. These will occure at 50%, 80% and 100% of your monthly allowance.

Mobile Broadband Costs Abroad?

The following roaming charges relate to all Mobile Broadband tariffs. Mobile Broadband tariffs that have inclusive roaming data will experience these charges should they use more than their inclusive roaming allowance:

(midnight - 11.59pm GMT)
 Costs*
 Europe  Rest of World
 Mobile Broadband First 50MB  £8.50 £25.50
 Every 50MB thereafter £8.50 £25.50

Applicable Countries:

For an up to date list of countries that experience these charges, please visit the Vodafone website by clicking here.

* A day is classed as midnight to midnight GMT and a session begins the moment a customer accesses data and will be counted until either the end of the day (midnight GMT) or when 25MB / 50MB is reached. Usage over 25MB / 50MB in a day will result in a further charge of £4.25 (ex VAT) / £8.50 (ex VAT) in Europe and £12.75 (ex VAT) / £25.50 (ex VAT) in RoW for each additional 25MB / 50MB used respectively. ‘Up to’ on the Data Bolt-Ons means the customer will pay £4.25 per MB in 1KB steps for the first MB and then get 24MB’s for free.

These costs are for customers connected since July 2009. If you connected earlier than this date you may not be eligible for the charges listed above. Contact Yes Telecom for details.

  1. When a customer lands in a country – to confirm costs and allowance.
  2. When a customer is approaching the 25MB/50MB allowance – to warn of additional charges.
  3. At the end of a day (UK midnight time) – to warn of charges for another day’s session.
